Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

The Acadia University Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is an in-house professional, confidential counselling and advising service made available to employees and their families through the workplace.

Acadia employees, their spouses, common law and same sex partners, and dependent children (children living at home up to age nineteen and children in school up to age twenty-five) may use the EAP. Family members over the age of sixteen may access the EAP on their own. Children under the age of sixteen must have the permission of a parent to use the EAP

What types of services are available?

Counselling: You may meet with a counsellor for as many as six sessions per year to discuss your concerns.
Referral: Some concerns may require specialized services or more than six sessions with a counsellor. In these cases, the counsellor will help you connect with the appropriate community resources.

How much does it cost?

Most services through the EAP are paid for by Acadia University with the exception of a modest fee for standardized testing services (career-academic interest, personality type), or registration for special workshops. If you are referred to a community resource, there may be a fee for service. Payment is then your responsibility. (Acadia's benefit plan may cover some of the costs.)

Will I have to take time off work for my appointment?

You should treat your EAP appointment the same as a medical appointment and feel free to take time from your work schedule to attend. However, if you wish, appointment times can be arranged outside regular working hours.

What if I need to cancel my appointment?

If you must cancel an appointment, please call 585-1246 as soon as possible. We would appreciate twenty-four hours' advance notice so that the counsellor can arrange to provide service to someone else. Repeated failures to provide notice may reduce the time available to serve you.
