About Depression

Depression is a serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act.

Depression has a variety of symptoms, but the most common are a deep feeling of sadness or a marked loss of interest or pleasure in activities.

Some of the most common symptoms of depression include:

  • Loss of interest in daily activities
  • Sleep changes
  • Weight and appetite changes
  • Irritability
  • Loss of energy
  • Unexplained aches and pains

Help Coping with Depression

"Depression is the most treatable mental illness"*. Most people who suffer from depression are helped by personal counselling. Learning that you are not alone and that help is available is often the beginning of recovery from depression.
